The Delhi government on Tuesday filed a plea in the high court seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against Delhi's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) chief M.K. Meena for allegedly violating the court's order by removing an officer of the anti-graft agency.
The high court had earlier declined the plea of the Delhi government to restrain Joint Commissioner of Police Meena from working as the ACB chief.
Meena had issued an order shunting out inspector Vinay Malik as station house officer (SHO) of the ACB, appointed by the Aam Aadmi Party government, and posted inspector Brij Mohan in his place.
In its plea, the city government said it was constrained to file the contempt petition as Meena had willfully violated the court's June 29 order, which had asked the lt. governor-appointee ACB chief to act in "accordance with the law".
Seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against Meena as well as Mohan, the plea said the latter was acting under "direct instruction and orders of Meena".
The plea said: "Summon the respondents (Meena and Mohan) and punish them for having committed contempt of court under the provision of the Contempt of Court Act."
