The national capital experienced another chilly day and a foggy morning on Wednesday, which led to the cancellation of 67 trains to and from the national capital.

The weather office said cold winds again led to the city's maximum temperature dropping to 15.1 degrees Celsius, five notches below the season's average.

It was for the first time this month that the sting of the winter could be felt during daytime in the city.

However, the minimum temperature remained relatively high at 9 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average.

"A total of 67 trains were cancelled and six were rescheduled due to dense fog on Wednesday morning," a Northern Railway official said.

The official said 16 trains -- including Grand Trunk Express, Howrah-Duronto Express, Vikramshila Express, Magadh Express, Brahmaputra Express, Shivganga Express and four Rajdhani trains -- were running well behind schedule because of low visibility.

Air traffic, however, was not affected by the foggy conditions.

The Met Office said the maximum visibility at 8.30 a.m. was 500 metres, while the maximum humidity was recorded at 97 percent.

It forecast similar weather for the next few days.

"Moderate and dense fog may occur at specific locations on Thursday morning while the sky would be clear during the day ahead," said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 17 and 8 degrees Celsius, according to the forecast.

Tuesday's maximum temperature was 15.7 degrees Celsius, four notches below the season's average, while the minimum settled at 9 degrees, two notches above the season's average.
