The SDMC and the DDA Wednesday came under the scanner of the Delhi High Court after both submitted some "photoshopped" images of streets in Dwarka area that were practically wiped clean of all potholes.

A division bench of Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice Siddharth Mridul caught red-handed the counsel representing the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

They defended themselves by saying that there was no reason for them to smudge the details as they were working to clean up the areas on their own initiative.

"This is photoshopped. When it comes to technology, I am a novice, but even I can say it is photoshopped. Somebody has tried to brush this up," the bench remarked.

Ebbani Aggarwal, a law student and resident of Dwarka, who had filed a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking direction to civic agencies to clean up the area, told the bench that some work has been done on behalf of the SDMC and the DDA for cleaning up the areas but it was not yet complete.

She had earlier alleged that the markets, roads, footpaths and open vacant land and other places in Dwarka sub-city were full of litter, filth, rubbish, solid waste and remains of construction material.

Taking into note the submissions of Aggarwal, the high court said: "The concrete waste is being dumped indiscriminately by people. Domestic and commercial garbage is also being thrown all over."

Earlier, the court had asked DDA and SDMC officials to work together to remove all the debris and rubbish which was indicated in photographs submitted by Aggarwal as part of her petition.
