Delhi government officials will now be penalised if they fail to deliver services, with the Delhi assembly on Thursday passing the Delhi (Right Of Citizen To Time Bound Delivery of Services) Amendment Bill.
Salaries of the officials will be cut automatically under the new law.
After its notification, every government department has to take out "comprehensive citizens charter" within 30 days. For this, the head of department will be responsible, according to the law.
Compensation to the applicant will be paid within days as prescribed under the rules on which the service is provided failing which the citizen shall be paid double the said amount, the government said.
In case, the services are not provided for more than 30 days after the due date as per the citizen charter the competent officer shall ensure that the compensation for 30 days period is paid immediately and similarly payments made for any further delay of 30 days period.
The maximum amount of Rs.200 per application has been removed. Payment schedule will be based on daily rate of service delayed which will proportionately increase over time.
