Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday inaugurated 'Yuva', a Delhi Police initiative for skill development among the youth, as part of its community policing.

Delhi Police has tied up with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to provide the job-linked skilling for selected youths.

Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal said the youths trained under 'Yuva' programme would be the brand ambassadors of Delhi Police and set example for other states to follow.

Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik said that 2,269 candidates had been selected for training in 45 fields in three months by 36 training partners.

"From street crime to skill training. Our long-term strategy to mainstream errant youths. Proud moment for Delhi Police to launch Project Yuva," Patnaik said in a tweet.

NSDC will be providing training to selected youths under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY).

Currently, eight training centres have started in different districts in Delhi and 32 police station buildings identified where skill development centres would be opened soon.

Special Commissioner of Police Sanjay Baniwal said NSDC and CII would hand out skill certificates to all participants on completion of the course and also help the youths get jobs under the PMKVY scheme.--IANS
