The Noida Police on Wednesday booked AAP legislator and former Delhi Law minister Somnath Bharti for insulting and outraging the modesty of a woman journalist during a live debate, an officer said.
The incident occurred on Tuesday during a live broadcast show on a news channel, when the woman journalist anchoring the show questioned Somnath Bharti over domestic violence.
"It is seen in a over two-minute video clip viral on social media, hearing the question, Bharti lost his temper and asked woman journalist to become a prostitute. He also abused her of being an agent and asked her to run a prostitution racket," The FIR said.
"The Aam Aadmi Party lawmaker was earlier accused of assulting his wife and called her a BJP agent during the show," The FIR said.
"The woman also said in FIR that Somnath Bharti mentally harassed her, insulted her modesty on live show when she asked her the questions related to public domain grievances. She also demanded strict action against Bharti," Station House Officer Sita Singh said.
"On the complaint of the journalist, we booked Somnath Bhari for intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace and intended to insult the modesty of a woman. Further investigation is under way," Singh added.
The AAP leader is also facing trial for molesting African women during midnight raid in Khirki in South Delhi.
