As the peak power demand in Delhi climbed to an all-time high of 6,188 MW, Delhi Power Minister Satyendra Jain on Friday directed three private discoms to deploy additional teams to deal with consumer complaints.

He also directed top discom officials to deploy mobile distribution transformers, as and when required, for quick restoration of electricity supply in areas where outages are being reported.

He asked the discoms to strengthen their call centres to register all complaints.

"Deploy more personnel, if required, but each and every complaint should be registered for its proper resolution," Jain said.

The high demand has led to hours of power cuts across the national capital.

On Thursday, there was a glitch at Delhi Transco Limited's Bamnauli-Pappankalan 220 kV transmission line for two hours leading to power cuts in Dwarka and Uttam Nagar areas.

Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) is a state-owned power transmission company which makes electricity available to private discoms for distribution across the city.

A DTL official said the power demand goes up between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and from 10 p.m. to 11.30 p.m.

He, however, said there was no shortage of power in Delhi.

"There is no shortage of electricity in Delhi but keeping in view the national interest and safety of the power system the public should use electricity judiciously," Transco had said.

On Thursday, Delhi saw the peak power demand at 6,044 MW, highest since the privatisation of power distribution in Delhi in 2002. The peak power demand had touched 5,846-MW mark in June last year.
