Delhiites Sunday saw the season's coldest day at 2.6 degrees Celsius, five notches below average, as dense fog brought down visibility below 50 metres and delayed 78 trains and 73 flights. Monday is expected to see similar weather, the Met department said.

According to the Northern Railway, 78 trains were delayed, 22 were rescheduled and six were cancelled due to the dense fog in the national capital.

The Indira Gandhi International airport said the poor visibility due to the fog delayed 73 flights, while four were cancelled.

Road traffic was also hit due to the dense fog. Most motorists drove slowly, with their headlights on even in the morning.

"It was literally impossible to drive my bike in the fog. I was unable to see beyond 10 metres. It's a bone-chilling day," said Ram Kishore after crossing on his motorbike the DND flyway that links Delhi and Noida.

The Met has forecast a similar Monday, however the sky to be clear during the afternoon.

"Monday will also have dense fog in the morning. The minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to hover around 18 degrees and 3 degrees Celsius," said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Sunday's maximum temperature was recorded at 18.3 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average.

Saturday's maximum temperature settled a level below the season's average at 19.2 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was 4.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average.
