Residents of the national capital faced searing heat on Saturday as the mercury in some parts crossed 44 degrees Celsius while the average maximum temperature was at 42.6 degrees Celsius, two notches above average. Sunday is likely to be hotter.
The temperature in the Ridge area and Ayanagar touched 44.5 degrees and in Palam it hit 44.8 degrees, four nothces above the season's average. The maximum temperature in Gururgam and Faridabad was 43 degree Celsius.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the mercury will rise further on Sunday.
"There are chances that temperature would further rise by one degree on Sunday and there are no chances of rain on either Sunday or Monday," said an IMD official.
The minimum temperature recorded on Saturday was 28.7 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average.
Minimum humidity was 18 per cent and the maximum 64 per cent.
Friday's maximum temperature was 40 degrees, at the season's average, while the minimum temperature was 26 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average.
