A youth allegedly cheated by a Delhi-based institute on the promise of being provided a job in the Merchant Navy died in Iran following prolonged illness while working there as a labourer, police said Tuesday.

The family has registered a complaint against the institute.

Deceased Pradeep Sharma, 20, of Burari in north Delhi, died three days ago in Iran where he was sent by a private coaching institute on the pretext of a job in Merchant Navy.

"The only son, Pradeep was sent to Iran in place of Dubai as promised by IPSR Institute that had taken Rs.5 lakh for the Merchant Navy job in Dubai," J.P. Singh, a family member, told IANS.

He said the institute cheated Pradeep and gave him the work of a labourer on a ship in Iran.

"Pradeep went to Iran Oct 7, 2013. He used to talk to his parents on weekends over phone and inform them of his not being well there. He said he was forced to work as a labourer. But, for last one month, he did not contact his parents," the relative added.

Following an enquiry at the institute, situated in Lajpat Nagar of south Delhi, the victim's father came to know Monday that his son died of illness three days ago.

The institute informed them that Pradeep was suffering from tuberculosis.

Police said they have registered a case against the institute as the victim's family blamed its president for the death of their son.
