The national capital experienced a cloudy and chilly Friday followed by a dense fog in the morning which led to 39 flights being delayed and 64 trains being cancelled. Fog is expected on Saturday morning too while the day is expected to be sunny and chilly.
The city witnessed maximum temperature at 15.6 degrees Celsius, four notches below the season's average, a sudden drop in the mercury compared to the previous day (Thursday), while the minimum temperature settled two notches above the season's average at 9.6 degrees Celsius.
The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) said in a bulletin that all the flights were delayed by 15 minutes due to dense fog in the morning, but none was cancelled.
"The arrival of 22 flights was delayed by 15 minutes while 17 flights departed late taking the same time span," an IGIA official said.
Northern Railway said that 10 trains were running late due to the heavy fog in the morning as the minimum visibility by 5.30 a.m. and 8.30 a.m. was recorded 200 metres and 500 metres, respectively.
An India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said that there would be dense fog on Saturday morning while the sky may be clear throughout the day.
The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 19 and 9 degrees Celsius, respectively. Thursday's maximum temperature settled at 19 degree celsius, a notch below the season's average while the minimum temperate settled at 13.6 degree celsius, six notches above the season's average.
