Indian tennis player Somdev Devvarman lost in the first round of men's singles qualification and failed to reach the main draw of $1,508,815 Washington Open here.
Barbadian Darian King took two hours and nine minutes to beat Devvarman 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 on the outdoor hard courts of the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center on Saturday.
Rohan Bopanna is the other Indian taking part in the event. He will partner Romanian Florin Mergea in men's doubles when the main draw starts on Monday. The two have been seeded third in the draw of 16.
