Seven persons were injured and three vehicles damaged when a girder of Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC) collapsed at the Mohan Nagar DMRC station construction site in Ghaziabad on Monday.
The incident occurred at about 10 a.m. when the peak hour traffic on the road was dense. The steel girder erected for construction of a foot overbridge crashed suddenly on the Dilshad Garden-New Bus Adda corridor.
Five of the injured were identified as auto driver Indrajeet, passenger Seema, bike driver Gulzar, Atul Gaurav and Raje Gautam. The identity of two others was not known.
Hospital sources revealed that the condition of a woman was critical.
The DMRC said the project in-charge of the contractor, M/s GYT TPL of Mohan Nagar, had been removed.
Services of the sub-contractor, Ruby Enterprises, had been terminated. The sub-contractor would be barred from taking part in any future work of DMRC.
DMRC's Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer in charge of the site have been suspended.
An ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh will be paid to the seriously injured and Rs 1 lakh to those with minor injuries.
The medical expenditure of all the injured persons would be borne by DMRC.
The 9.41-km metro extension is proposed to have eight stations in Ghaziabad: Shaheed Nagar, Raj Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park, Mohan Nagar, Arthala, Hindon and New Bus stand.
