Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Monday started tunnelling work at Hazrat Nizamuddin as part of its phase III Metro expansion, an official said.
The underground tunnel at Hazrat Nizamuddin in south Delhi on the Mukundpur-Shiv Vihar corridor will provide direct connectivity between the Sarai Kale Khan inter-state bus terminus and the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station.
The tunnelling would cover the 3.366-km underground stretch between Lajpat Nagar and Hazrat Nizamuddin with six tunnel boring machines.
The Hazrat Nizamuddin Metro station is slated to open by 2016.
DMRC is scheduled to build 53 km of underground Metro lines as part of its Phase III construction work.
