Filmmaker Nalan Kumarasamy, who awaits the release of Tamil romantic-comedy "Kadhalum Kadhandu Pogum", says he doesn't enjoy making films in the same genre and prefers to explore other genres too.
In 2013, Nalan made a smashing debut with Tamil dark comedy "Soodhu Kavvum".
"Even this project was started as a dark comedy too. However, by the time we wrapped up the pre-production work, so many films in the same genre had released. I usually don't like to repeat genres and hence decided to make this as a romantic-comedy instead," Kumarasamy told IANS.
"Since we had to shift the genre, we had to work on the project from scratch, owing to the long gap between my first and second film," he said.
The film, an official remake of South Korean romantic-drama "My Dear Desperado", stars Vijay Sethupathi and Madonna Sebastian in lead roles.
"It's a story about two people who are poles apart coming together. By the time they fall in love, the film ends, making it different from others films in the same genre. There are cliched events but those are narrated with twists and turns," he said.
This is the second time in a row Nalan has teamed up with Vijay Sethupathi.
"Whoever heard the script felt Vijay would suit the role well and hence we joined hands again. He's someone who can deliver what a director wants in the most casual manner. However, in 'Kadhalum Kadhandu Pogum', he's given a very different performance and audiences are going to love it," he added.
The film releases worldwide on February 12.
