New York real estate mogul Donald Trump holds on the top position in the Republican presidential field by a wide margin and has won the party's trust more than any other candidate, a CNN/ORC poll said.

According to Tuesday's survey, 24 percent of Republican registered voters say they support Trump, while the runner-up, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, has garnered 13 percent, reported Xinhua.

The supporting rate for other 15 Republican candidates was stuck in single digits, the survey said.

After the first Republican prime-time primary debate in August, Trump's favourability rate also increased, rising from about 50 percent in a July survey to 58 percent among Republicans, indicated the survey.

As many as 58 percent of Republicans believe the Republican Party would have a better chance to win in 2016 with someone else other than Trump among the top tier.

Meanwhile, though Trump would not unveil his first batch of policies and governing plans till the second primary debate that starts in September, Republican voters trust him more than any other Republican candidates on several top issues.

According to the survey, 45 percent say they trust Trump most on the economy, 44 percent on illegal immigration and 32 percent on his campaign against the extremist group of the Islamic State.
