Donning track-pant and white T-shirt, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar joined over 20,000 people in performing yoga on the inaugural International Yoga Day here on Sunday.
Yoga guru Ramdev's close aide Bal Krishan was among the prominent personalities in Karnal, Khattar's assembly constituency.
Khattar has a passion for yoga which, he says, helps him to keep calm and balance in daily life.
Speaking at the function, Khattar exhorted the people to make yoga an integral part of their life for leading a healthy life.
Stating that Haryana government is promoting yoga in a big way, Khattar said: "As many as 1,000 trainers would soon be appointed for the yog and vyayamshalas (yoga centres) to be set up in 1,000 villages in the first phase for imparting yoga training."
The chief minister said functions to mark the International Yoga Day were held at 60 places across the state, in which around 100,000 people participated.
Appreciating the contribution of Ramdev's Patanjali Yog Peeth, he said this town was next to Rajpath in New Delhi in witnessing the largest participation.
"Yoga is a medium to connect soul with the god and it also helps the people making them mentally and physically strong," he said.
Ramdev's aide Bal Krishan urged the people to adopt yoga in their life to become more prosperous.
"Yoga not only avoids untimely death but also helps in curing various deadly diseases," he added.
