Delhi University (DU) received around 1.5 lakh offline admission forms while its online registration tripled compared to last year as the admission process to its four year undergraduate programme ended Wednesday.
Dean, Students Welfare, J.M Khurana said: "There has been an almost 200 percent increase in the number of online registration forms. We have received 138,605 online registration forms till June 18 and more are expected as the deadline ends Wednesday midnight."
He also highlighted that there has been almost 100 per cent increase of the students belonging to the Scheduled Caste(SC) and Scheduled Tribe(ST) seeking admission in the university.
Given the heavy rush, the varsity had given an extension of few hours for submitting the online and offline registration forms. While the deadline for the offline registration in all the 18 admission centres ended at 4 p.m., the online registration was open till Wednesday midnight.
Earlier, the admission centres distributed and received forms only up to 1 p.m.
According to Khurana, the extension came in view of the prevailing weather conditions and to help the candidates applying for the four-year undergraduate programme.
DU has introduced the four-year undergraduate programme starting this academic year under which the students will be required to study 11 foundational courses in the first two years, clubbing together students who seek vocational education with those pursuing pure academic disciplines
