Dutch tourist fined for selfie atop Florence landmark

Rome, Sep 12 (IANS/AKI) A 31-year-old Dutch tourist was fined after she climbed a landmark in the Italian city of Florence to take a selfie.

The landmark, statue of 1st century B.C. religious leader, John the Baptist, is located on Florence's riverfront near the Ponte Vecchio bridge.

Police spotted the woman as she scaled the bronze statue by contemporary sculptor Giuliano Vangi.

She was fined 160 euros ($181).

The statue was undamaged.
