Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Monday said that he expected the economy to grow even faster than 8-9 percent achieved during previous regimes, as a result of a stable government at the centre.
"Even at the modest level of governance, we have grown at 8-9 per cent. With much better level of governance, I think we have capacity to break the deadline you are setting for," he said at a book launch ceremony here.
"With new environment in the country, where history has once again provided us kind of opportunity which it had provided 23 years ago, we can unleash these energy and perhaps go on higher level of growth rate."
The economy after slowing to below 5 percent growth last fiscal is expected to do marginally better at 5.7 percent in the current fiscal.
The finance minister was speaking after the release of a book titled 'Exploding Aspirations-Unlocking India's Future' - by Rajiv Kumar.
