Efforts are on to plug leakage of highly inflammable gas from an Oil India Limited well in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan, over 700 km from here.
"Gas has been leaking from an OIL well in Dandewala area in Jaisalmer district for some days now. We have provided fire tenders and ambulances to officials to tackle it," a district administration official told IANS.
He said no one was being allowed to go near the affected area that is very close to the India-Pakistan border and does not have any villages or human habitations nearby.
Company sources said the leak was continuing for over 10-11 days now and efforts to control it have so far been unsuccessful.
Experts from OIL and other companies have been deputed at the site to control the leakage.
