Efforts on to rescue boy who fell in Rajasthan borewell

A rescue operation has been launched in Rajasthan to save a nine-year-old boy who fell into a 200-feet borewell while flying a kite near his house, officials said Thursday.

Chhotu has been stuck inside the borewell for the past 20 hours, they added.

According to a senior police officer, the boy was flying a kite near his house in Charda Kala village near Hindon City in Karauli district, some 200 km from Jaipur, when he fell into the borewell about 3 p.m. Wednesday.

"The boy is believed to be stuck around 100 feet down in the borewell which has a width of only one feet. The borewell which is used to draw ground water had been left open," said Hindon City station house officer Anoop Singh.

Singh added that senior administration and police officers reached the spot and ordered a rescue operation.

"A hole parallel to the borewell is being dug to save the child. We are trying to get food and water to him," said the officer. "We are also planning to take help of the army for this," he said.

However, the boy's family members and the villagers accused the authorities of delaying the rescue operations due to lack of resources.

They blocked a road in protest and demanded that the child be rescued soon.
