Eleven people died and nine others were injured on Saturday night in a road mishap in Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Sunday.
Police said a number of pilgrims from Bhujaund village in Moth area were going in two tractor trollies to Ratangarh Mata temple in Madhya Pradesh. On the way, some of the pilgrims got down to offer coconuts at another temple opposite the forest department's office while other pilgrims remained seated in the vehicles, said Madhya Pradesh Police spokesperson Nityanand Rai.
A speeding truck rammed into the stationary tractor trolleys parked outside the temple killing nine pilgrims on the spot. Two others succumbed in hospital, police said.
Rameshwar, Ashok, Ramshri, Meera Devi, Prema Devi, Santoshi Devi, Urmila Devi, Aashika, and Vikki died on the spot while Seema and Rishabh died in the hospital during treatment.
