Moscow, Sep 15 (IANS/EFE) British singer Elton John on Tuesday said he has spoken over telephone with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the situation of homosexuals in Russia.
"Thank you to President Vladimir Putin for reaching out and speaking via telephone with me today," wrote the artist on his Instagram account.
"I look to forward to meeting with you face-to-face to discuss LGBT equality in Russia," he added.
The famous British singer visited Kiev last weekend where he backed Ukraine against external aggression and called on the country for greater tolerance towards homosexuals.
He had then said he would like to speak to Putin about the situation of homosexuals in Russia, where human rights organisations claim that the rights of the group were violated.
The Kremlin has not commented about the conversation between the president and the singer.
