Abu Dhabi, Oct 19 (IANS/WAM) The Emirates Identity Authority (Emirates ID) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the UN to bolster cooperation in developing the infrastructure for its digital identity programme.
Under the MoU, signed at the UN headquarters in New York Thursday, Emirates ID and the UN have also agreed to implement joint initiatives and projects in the field of sustainable development, organise international conferences and workshops and conduct specialised researches.
Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, director general of Emirates ID, said the UAE is determined to be one of the best countries in the world by following the UAE Vision 2021 and Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.
The UN hailed Emirates ID's efforts to develop an advanced personal identity management system for the people in that country.
"The partnership is an opportunity to support the authority achieve its ambitious goals and for our organisation to disseminate the authority's experience on global level," said Richard Kerby, senior inter-regional advisor on e-Governance at the UN department of economic and social affairs.
The two sides reaffirmed their keenness to mutually benefit from the technology exchange and expertise.
