Engineering student raped, burnt to death

An engineering student has been raped and burnt to death here, the state police said on Friday.

According to the police, the burnt body of the third-year engineering student was found at a house in Buty Basti area.

The incident came to light on the day when the entire country is mourning the death of Nirbhaya, a para-medical student, who was gang-raped and brutally assaulted on a moving bus in Delhi four years ago, and died during treatment later.

The police suspect the girl was first raped by someone known to her and later burnt to death.

The matter came to the police's notice after the parents and students enquired about her as she did not go to her institute on Friday.

On reaching her house, the door was found locked from outside. The body, which was found inside the house, has been sent for post-mortem examination.

The girl was a resident of Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district and was staying with another girl in a rented accommodation.
