The EU Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) will conduct during pre-election period, election period and post-election period a comprehensive analysis of Myanmar's electoral process based on a methodology developed by the EU, chief observer of EU EOM Alexander Graf Lambsdorff said on Tuesday.

Lambsdorff, who is also vice president of the European Parliament, said at the end of his five-day visit to Myanmar that EU EOM is impartial, independent and does not interfere in the electoral process.

EU EOM arrived in Myanmar on September 26 with a core team of eight analysts. Thirty long-term observers were deployed on October 11.

Sixty-two short-term observers together with a delegation of the European parliament and EU diplomats will reinforce the mission around election day, the press release said.

The EU EOM will deploy some 150 observers from all 28 member states as well as Norway, Switzerland and Canada throughout the country.

It will issue a preliminary statement shortly after election day and a final report with technical recommendations at a later stage, according to the mission, it added.

According to Myanmar's Union Election Commission, a total of 6,072 candidates including 310 independents will run the upcoming general election set for November 8.
