Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that terrorism was taking new forms and it was responsibility of every country to fully cooperate in combating it.

Addressing the media with French President Francois Hollande after their talks here, Modi said several cities including Paris and Mumbai have faced terror attacks and India and France understand each other's pain.

"It is responsibility of every country to cooperate fully. It should not give them (terrorists) sanctuary and give them punishment at the earliest," he said.

Modi's remarks came on a day 26/11 principal accused Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi was released from jail in Pakistan.

While the Indian governement termed Lakhvi's release as a "most negative development" for bilateral ties with Pakistan, Hollande told Modi that the release of Lakhvi on bail is "deeply shocking".

Modi also said that France and India will strengthen their increase their security cooperation.

He said the two countries will also enhance their cooperation on issues related to climate change.
