Imaging living in a floating apartment at one of the largest natural wonders on the planet, the Great Barrier Reef. It's possible now courtesy Airbnb, a community-driven hospitality company, which has announced such lodging in partnership with Disney Pixar's "Finding Dory", the sequel to the film "Finding Nemo".
The floating apartment is a chance to live at the Great Barrier Reef where the movie is set, said a statement.
Upon arrival, guests will be welcomed by their host who spent much of his life growing up on a boat on the Reef. Alongside a dedicated team of marine biologists, the Airbnb host will give guests a unique insight into life on the Reef.
Set directly above an underwater world, the offshore bedroom is apt for keen snorkelers and scuba divers.
Spanning over 130,000 square miles, the Great Barrier Reef was the first coral reef to be awarded World Heritage status.
"The opportunity to live at one of the most spectacular places on earth, even if just for a night, is not just about experiencing the unrivaled beauty of the location. It's about understanding how humans can better help and support this special environment," said Airbnb Australian Country Manager Sam McDonagh.
"Airbnb will plant mangroves, salt marsh and wetland plants for every guest visiting the region for the rest of the year. These trees will reduce carbon and improve water quality going out to the seas and Reef," added McDonagh.
Airbnb will also contribute to an ongoing tiger shark tagging project run by the Great Barrier Reef Foundation.
"Tiger sharks are nearing threatened status so understanding how these animals use the ocean is a critical step toward effective conservation of the species," McDonagh said.
