Giving heart-shaped food items and cushions is passe. Spend a relaxing Valentine's Day with someone special on islands that appear like hearts.
"If you're looking to really impress your Valentine this year try planning a trip to one of mother nature's own heart-shaped productions," Joachim Holte, chief marketing Officer of travel metasearch site Wego, said in a statement.
"Naturally occurring islands and lakes shaped as one of love's greatest symbols appear in more locations around the world than most realise. All offer their own very unique experiences to suit all manner of original romantic getaways," added Holte.
Here are few suggestions given by Wego:
* Netrani Island: Those who are fond of snorkelling and diving can go to this tiny heart-shaped island, located around 19 km from the coastal town of Murudeshwar, Karnataka. Subterranean caves, temple ruins and the remains of a Catholic Church and mosque add to the romance of a long forgotten past.
* Heart Reef, Whitsunday Islands, Australia: Nothing quite says 'love' like flying over Heart Reef off Australia's Queensland coast. In the middle of the beautiful Great Barrier Reef, the tiny island is only 17 metres in diameter. You and your beloved can hop on the local air charters for a romantic aerial experience followed by dreamy isolated beach picnics and a dip in the crystal blue waters of the Whitsundays. The sky above Heart Reef is a very popular location for marriage proposals.
* Tavarua Island, Fiji: Tailor made by nature in the South Pacific ocean, Fiji's stunning Tavarua Island offers exciting opportunities like sky diving, kite surfing and helicopter tours. When you're done surfing world class waves and diving in clear waters, retreat to your private beachside hideaway shaded by palm trees and the cool ocean breeze.
* Makepeace Island, Noosa, Australia: The heart-shaped island resort features a 500,000 litre lagoon pool, a 15-person heated spa and runway style landing lights to illuminate your evening laps. Watch your favourite romantic movie in the outdoor cinema or play tennis in lawn tennis court.
