At least 50 people were injured in an explosion in China's Tianjin city late Wednesday.

The blast occurred around 11.30 p.m., Xinhua news agency reported.

The locals said flame lit up the sky and a blast with a big noise blew up dust dozens of metres high. The explosion also shattered glass windows.

Li Jing, a woman who lives a few metres from the explosion site, said she saw the wounded being sent to hospitals.
