A huge cache of explosives, including a shotgun, was recovered on Tuesday from Umsohlang river in Meghalaya, officials said.
The recovery was made after a group of young boys found an abandoned suitcase containing explosive material and a school bag containing a country-made shotgun.
The boys informed their parents about the abandoned suitcases and they alerted the police.
"We have seized a black colour school bag containing a rusty country made shotgun with seven cartridges, 135 pellets, 16 electric detonators, plastic bottle containing some liquid, one copper wire, three ball pens and one suitcase containing 85 gelatine sticks, 74 electric detonators and white plastic strip," M Kharkrang, the district police chief of East Khasi Hills, told IANS.
