Fake government job racket busted in Delhi, two held

Two people have been arrested for cheating unemployed people on the pretext of providing them government and private jobs through Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and Swarn Jayanti Rozgar Yogna, Delhi Police said on Monday.

East Delhi residents Raju Bhati, 31, and Hemant Sharma, 42, were arrested last week from different places in the capital with incriminating documents.

Police started its probe into the racket on information received from the finance ministry and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) that some people were offering fake jobs in central government schemes.

"The racket was providing fake job appointment letters under Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana scheme and Swarn Jayanti Swarojgar Yojana," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav said.

The officer said the accused used to cheat people on the pretext of false initial payments in the form of security money, courier and transportation charges.

"They took Rs.13,950 as the security amount for sending false offer letters to the victims. The victims were advised to deposit money in cash in accounts maintained with State Bank of India and Punjab National Bank," the officer said.

Bhati told police that his main role was to provide SIM cards and bank accounts to the prospective racketeers for the premium of Rs.20,000 to 25,000 per account and Rs.500 to 1,000 rupees per SIM card.

On the basis of his interrogation, police arrested Sharma.

"Sharma used to procure the data of potential job seekers from the job portals site monster.com and shine.com. He got himself listed as an employer in these portals by paying monthly subscription fee," the official said.

According to the official, the inquiry in the case is on to nab other members of the racket.
