Many fans were left unhappy when Billboard recently announced that Madonna would pay a tribute to late pop icon Prince at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. One of them has started an online petition, urging the event's organisers to make some changes to Madonna's planned performance.
The fan named Stacey Flygirrl Wilson and thousands of people who've signed the petition on change.org agree that Madonna shouldn't be "the main and only artist" paying tribute to Prince at the forthcoming awards show, reports aceshowbiz.com.
"He is more than worthy of a better choice as a main performer. Please sign and share this petition so that we can get a proper tribute on May 22, 2016. Timing is tight! Spread the word," Wilson wrote in her petition.
In the comment section, some supporters expressed their disagreement over Billboard's current plan to have Madonna pay tribute to Prince. They also suggested the likes of Chaka Khan, Janelle Monae, D'Angelo, Lenny Kravitz and Sheila E. to be the tribute's main performer instead.
Madonna once collaborated with the Prince on her 1989 album "Like a Prayer". The late singer played the guitar on the songs "Like a prayer", "Keep it together" and "Act of contrition" in addition to appearing together with Madonna on the single "Love song".
The 2016 Billboard Music Awards will air on May 22 with Ciara and Ludacris as co-hosts. Justin Bieber, Pink, Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas and Britney Spears are among other names scheduled to take the stage at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
