The proto-type equipment for Metro Rail Hyderabad's Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system, manufactured by Samsung SDS, Korea, has arrived here.

L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited has adopted state of the art automatic fare collection system for the 72-km elevated metro project.

A team led by V.B. Gadgil, chief executive and managing director, L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited inspected and witnessed the demonstration tests on AFC equipment like ticket gate machine, ticket vending machine, add value machine, ticket reader, station computer and card initialization and personalization machine.

The first set of AFC equipment is scheduled to arrive in June, said a company statement here Thursday.

"It is another important milestone for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project and this shows our commitment to deliver the best to the city. This technology will bring a true international experience for all the Hyderabadis and enrich their travel experience," said Gadgil.

Samsung SDS has implemented many AFC projects for metros in Beijing, Daejon, Delhi, Bangalore and Jaipur.

The first phase of the Rs.14,132 crore public private partnership project is scheduled to be completed in March next year. The project with 66 elevated metro stations is expected to be fully operational by July 2017.
