Swiss star Roger Federer won his record eighth men's singles title at the Wimbledon tennis tournament with a straight sets win over Marin Cilic of Croatia here on Sunday.
Federer dominated the final, cruising to a 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 victory in an hour and 41 minutes, reports Efe news agency.
This is the 19th Grand Slam title for Federer. He has now surpassed former US star Pete Sampras and William Renshaw of Britain to win the highest number of men's singles titles at Wimbledon.
The 35-year-old was in superb form at this year's edition, storming to the title without dropping a single set throughout the tournament.
"This tournament I've played, not dropping a set and holding the trophy -- it's magical. It's too much really," Federer said after the final.
"It's cruel sometimes but (Marin) fought well and he's a hero," he added.
Cilic, US Open champion in 2014, injured his left foot and cried during the second set.
It looked like the Croatian might withdraw, but he played on after receiving applause from the fans.
Federer won his second Grand Slam of the year after he beat Spain's Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open in January.
He has won five trophies this season -- Wimbledon, Melbourne, Indian Wells, Miami and Halle.
