The developer of sci-fi action game "Revolution 60" has been forced to flee her home after a Twitter user posted her address on the micro-blogging site and threatened to rape her.
Boston-based Brianna Wu called upon the police after she received a series of violent tweets from an account named "Death to Brianna", the Daily Mail reported.
The anonymous person behind the online attack said he was unhappy with Wu's outspoken support of women in technology and gaming.
"I am going to kill Brianna Wu and her husband Frank," he wrote.
Police confirmed the case and said the department was investigating the source of the message.
Some female journalists have also been targeted so viciously in the past that they vowed not to write about the video gaming world again, the report added.
