Five people were killed and four others reported missing after an explosion in a mine Sunday in China's Guizhou province, authorities said.

The accident happened in the afternoon at the state-owned Yushe Coal Mine in Shuicheng County when the gas collected in the coal mine exploded, Xinhua reported.

A total of 240 miners were working underground when the explosion occurred. However, 231 miners managed to escape.
