Five killed in explosions in Afghanistan

Four civilians and a policeman were killed Thursday in two separate bomb attacks in eastern Afghanistan, Xinhua reported citing the authorities.

In one attack, three civilians and one Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel were killed after a roadside bomb was detonated in Mehtarlam city, the provincial capital of eastern Afghan province of Laghman, the provincial government said in a statement.

Following the blast, which occurred at around 8.30 a.m., police launched an investigation and have arrested a suspected militant, the statement noted.
