An on-the-spur desire to check out Goa's famous nightlife proved expensive for five young men from Mumbai who were waylaid by unidentified assailants, beaten up and robbed of Rs.2.75 lakh in cash and valuables, police said Monday.
A police spokesperson said Rahul Sahani from Mumbai, who was holidaying in Goa with four of his friends - all aged between 20 and 24 years - met two people (unidentified as yet) at a popular nightclub Sunday night.
The two men, on the pretext of taking them to an all-night disco, led them to a desolate area at Parra, 15 km from here.
At Parra, five others appeared and along with the guiding duo, assaulted Rahul and his friends.
"Mobile phones, gold chains, watches and cash amounting to Rs.2.75 lakh were robbed from them," a police officer said.
