* The Delhi government's sole Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has a backlog of 10,000 cases.
* To address this, three more FSLs have been proposed, as also 11 mobile forensic labs to speed up investigations.
* The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Hyderabad in currently handling 110 samples sent from Delhi; the Kolkata lab has been sent 50 cases, while the Ahmedabad and Chandigarh labs have been sent 25 each by Delhi Police.
* The Delhi High Court, during the hearing in the appeal in the Dec 16, 2012, case, had sought a clarification from the Delhi Government, Delhi Police and Rohini FSL asking for the reason behind delay in forensic reports.
* The Rohini FSL has initiated recruitment of staff for filling up eight of the 30 vacant posts of technicians.
