Unidentified motorcycle borne criminals on Thursday shot dead a former councillor in Ghaziabad, Haji Harun.
The incident occurred in Maharajpur locality near the Delhi border.
The police said two criminals shot dead Harun when he was going to a mosque. The assailants sped away. Harun took four bullets.
As news of the murder spread, locals jammed traffic in the area. Senior Superintendent of Police H.N. Singh suspended three policemen who were on duty there.
"We will make arrests soon," said H.N. Singh.
