Four militants of the ULFA and NSCN-K were on Tuesday gunned down in a joint operation by security forces near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Assam's Tinsukia district, an official said.

The incident took place in Bordumsa area, Guwahati-based defence spokesman Lt. Col. Suneet Newton said in a statement.

Based on inputs, the Indian Army launched a joint operation along with Assam Police on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border between Tinsukia and Changlang, in which four militants were killed.

"While three of them belonged to anti-talk faction of NSCN-K, one belonged to the anti-talk faction of the ULFA," the statement said.

The official said they received information that the militants were going to Dilli Pathar village in Bordumsa for extortion.

The joint security team laid an ambush. The militants fired at the security forces, forcing them to retaliate that led to the killing of the four militants, Newton said.

One AK 56 rifle, two pistols and a large quantity of ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.
