France to hold climate change meet, but cancels peripherals

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls on Monday confirmed that the UN Climate Change Conference scheduled to be held in Paris from November 30 to December 11, will be held despite last week's attacks, but all additional events and ceremonies will be cancelled.

In an interview with RTL radio station, Valls pointed out that no head of state or government has asked to postpone the summit, emphasising that it will be held on schedule in the light of its importance for the future of the planet, EFE news reported.

France imposed controls once again at its borders with neighbouring countries for one month as a security measure for the conference, which was an exceptional measure in terms of the Schengen agreement.

Following the deadly attacks in Paris on November 13 which killed 129 people and left 350 others injured, French President Francois Hollande has strengthened border controls.

Valls, who rejected the idea of closing the borders, said the border controls should be "as effective as possible".
