Dutch football club Feyenoord Rotterdam chief coach Fred Rutten will leave the post after this season.
The club board of Feyenoord wanted to continue with the 52-year-old coach. But Rutten decided differently. He already made known his departure to the club board on February 12, but Feyenoord decided to wait with the public announcement until after the Europa League matches against AS Roma.
"Our ambitions are not very different from each other," Rutten said in a press release on Monday.
"But when it comes to the ability to take the final step to the top, then my vision compared with the club's vision are not similar on how to meet the high expectations that simply by Feyenoord dominated."
Rutten succeeded Ronald Koeman, who left for Southampton last year. With Feyenoord he is out of the title race, currently on the fourth place on nineteen points from league leaders PSV Eindhoven. He also led his team to the last 32 of the Europa League, in which AS Roma was too strong (3-2 on aggregate).
Rutten's one-year contract ran out in the middle of 2015. He was previously head coach of FC Twente, PSV, German side Schalke 04 and Vitesse.
