Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who underwent surgery to fix a dislocated shoulder after she collapsed due to exhaustion during a rally at Varanasi, is recovering well and is likely to be discharged later this week, hospital authorities said on Monday.

"Sonia Gandhi who has been admitted under the care of Arup Basu and his team from department of Pulmonology, is afebrile (no fever). All her systemic functions are stable. Her condition is steadily improving towards normalcy. She is recovering fast for shoulder injury under Prateek Gupta and his team," said D.S. Rana, Chairman (Board of Management), Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

Asked if Gandhi was going to remain in the hospital for a longer duration, he said the Congress leader will be discharged later this week.

Gandhi, who fell ill during a rally at Varanasi last week, was initially admitted to the Army Research and Referral Hospital.
