German rider Degenkolb wins third stage of Dubai Tour

German cyclist John Degenkolb from team Giant-Alpecin won the hilly third stage of the four-day Dubai Tour.

The 26-year old Degenkolb secured the leader's jersey with a finishing time of four hours 50 minutes and 40 seconds here Friday, reports Xinhua.

Spanish rider Alejandro Valverde from team Movistar was second. Valverde's teammate Juan Jose Lobato crossed the finishing line third.

Degenkolb has also become the general classification leader, taking over from British rider Mark Cavendish who is part of the team Etixx-QuickStep.

The race will finish with the fourth stage Saturday.
