Ghaziabad has emerged as the most crime-prone district in Uttar Pradesh in the past year as per the number of FIRs registered, according to an RTI reply.
The RTI query seeking to know about the police stations registering the most crimes in UP, was filed by a city-based activist Nutan Thakur.
Thakur told IANS on Wednesday that in response to her RTI, the Director General of Police's office informed that there are 136 police stations in the state where 500 or more crimes in different sections of the Indian Penal Code were registered last year.
The reply also said that the highest number of IPC crimes - 2,673, were registered in Indirapuram Police Station followed by 1,809 in Sahibabad and 1,528 in Kavinagar, all three in Ghaziabad district.
These were followed by Gomtinagar police station in Lucknow (1,421) and Ghaziabad's Sihani Gate (1,136) and Lanka police station in Varanasi - Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency - with 1,294 crimes and Kotwali Sadar in Lakhimpur Kheri district (1,212).
Next came Aligarh' Kwarsi police station (1,194) and Cantt police station of Gorakhpur and Sector 20 in Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida) with 1,186 each.
