A businessman and six members of his family, including his three grand-children, were murdered in their house here Wednesday and cash and valuables worth over Rs.1 crore looted, police said.
Satish Goel, 62, his wife Manju, 60, son Sachin, 40, daughter-in-law Rekha, 38, and grandchildren Medha, 13, Honey, 11, and Aman, 7, were found in pools of blood in their house in Nai Basti neighbourhood, said a police official who visited the spot in this suburb of the national capital.
"The entire house had been ransacked," said Senior Superintendet of Police Nitin Tiwari, adding that the damaged wardrobe suggested that the criminals had robbed all the valuables from the house.
Police said they were also looking into the possibility of some property dispute being behind the killings as Goel, who owned a wholesale grocery store, also invested in real estate.
The tragedy came to light at 8 a.m. Wednesday when an employee of Goel reached the home.
The bodies of Goel, Medha and Honey were found lying on the floor in the first floor bedroom, and the body of Manju was found in the kitchen, police said.
Police recovered a blood stained knife in the kitchen.
Investigators seized some documents from the house and forensic experts lifted finger prints.
