Gixxer Cup to hold 2nd selection round in Aizawl

The Suzuki Gixxer Cup will on Saturday launch the second leg of its selection round for this year's edition in Aizawl.

The first selection round was held in Bengaluru on June 4. Following the Aizawl leg, the next selection rounds will be held in Pune on June 18 and in the National Capital Region on June 25.

Launched in 2015, the Gixxer Cup has evolved into a platform for the budding racers in country over the last two seasons.

The event includes two different categories, one for the age-group of 12-16 years and the other for those over 16 years of age.

This racing series will give an opportunity to aspiring bikers in every nook and corner of the country to showcase his or her skills and dream of becoming a champion with one of the key focus area being drivers participating from small towns.

The most talented rider would get a chance to participate at the Red Bull Rookies Cup Qualifying for 2017 in Spain.

Close to 25 youngsters will also be shortlisted from the over 16 years category and will participate in the National Racing Championship to held in Coimbatore in July.

The novelty of this selection process is that participants will be provided Suzuki Gixxer bikes and safety gears as well and abiding by all safety norm the participants can be in straight shootouts with each other, besides going through a personality test by JK Motorsport experts.

The names of the shortlisted bikers will be announced on June 27. They will then be inculcated into a training programme in Coimbatore where they will make the transition from talented rookies to potential world beaters.

Apart from technical lessons and biking classes, they will also undergo fitness training, with a fitness expert personally charting each biker's schedule.

Another key feature of the 2017 edition of the Gixxer Cup is its association with JK Motorsports who have playing a pioneering role in identifying and nurturing India's top racers for over the last couple of decades.

The Formula One duo of Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandok, and emerging sensation Arjun Maini are some the Indian racing stars who have been nurtured by JK Motorsport.
